About Jag
If you ask Jag Gundu which of the images from his extensive library is his favourite, his face lights up, the laptop cracks open and a flurry of photos appear-everyone from singer Beyoncé to sports star Chris Evert to an Astral Media corporate launch to a bride walking down the aisle to Jag's children. Each photograph is distinct, profound, eye-catching and riveting. The photos are arresting and they compel people to continue looking.
This is why Jag's body of work has appeared in magazines and newspapers around the world: why a gallery exhibit space at Toronto's NFB Mediatheque opened after Jag's installation appeared; and why former Toronto may David Miller bought images to display in the mayor's office. Jag's advertising photography may be seen at the Air Canada Centre, in the concourse level of BMO Field, and various Magazines, among other places.
Since graduating from Ontario College of Art and Design (OCAD) in 1996, Jag has become one of Canada's leading photographers in his field. His camera lens has captured actors, musicians, sport celebrities and personalities from all across North America. His wedding and lifestyle photography captures the special moments of Canadians.
As a technician and an artist, he constantly pushes himself and his camera to find arresting and mesmerizing shots. His photography has been influenced by the most profound experiences of his life-the birth of his son and later daughter. Jag's art installations titled "Jeevan 365" and "Raaya 365", is a narrative documenting each day of his children's first year. Becoming a father has enriched his art by compelling Jag to uncover the passion in his subjects and telling their stories through photos.
Since becoming a dad, I have spent every spare moment with my son Jeevan and daughter Raaya, creating deep bonds that have changed me as a person, and a photographer.
The camera captures moments that we blink through, and I am awed by how important these life photos are. They have captured some of the most charming and defining moments of my life.
These narrative expressions have reinvigorated my photography and reinforced for me the importance of the photographic experience
